Teegan
McCloy, Newcastle CTC Junior Wins the 2010 Australia Cup
Final Open Women’s Event
Monday
6 December 2010
2010
Australian Junior team member and Newcastle Lake
Macquarie CTC Junior Teegan McCloy, shot a Performance
Qualifying Score (PQS) in the Open Women’s Australia
Cup Final in Olympic Trap held in Melbourne over the
weekend.
McCloy,
16, held off a quality field in the women’s trap
Australia Cup Final after setting a score of 69 from 75
targets in the qualifying rounds, a personal best for
the New South Wales youngster.
In the final, McCloy faced 2004 Olympic gold medallist
Suzy Balogh (NSW), Commonwealth Games gold medallists in
the women’s trap pairs Stacy Roiall (VIC) and Laetisha
Scanlan (VIC), 2010 Junior World Championship silver
medallist Catherine Skinner (VIC) and the rapidly
improving Michelle Beecham (VIC).
McCloy shot 17 targets from 25 in the final to
hold off Beecham by one shot, while Scanlan claimed the
bronze medal, a further three shots back off Beecham.
This
win and PQS result will firm up McCloys place in the
Australian Junior Team giving her an opportunity to
qualify for participation in the World Cup round to be
held in Sydney in March 2011 and the World Championships
in Serbia in August 2011.

JUNIOR CLAY TARGET
SHOOTING NEWS 18th OCTOBER 2010
Report by Selina
McCloy. HAS Team Manager
Junior DTL Shooters from the State
Northern Zone and Hunter Academy of Sport have won the
Junior Men's Team event at the prestigious NSW State
titles held in Wagga at the National Grounds. Hunter
Academy of Sports shooters Brock Goodwin and Gerard
Sainsbury along with Murray Riley were victorious over 3
man teams from the 4 other NSW zones. The Hunter Academy
and Nth Zone team members also claimed a swag of
individual achievements. As well as shooting a
personal best of 75/75 in the teams event Brock narrowly
missed out on a spot in the State team, dropping one
target after shooting an extra 25 clays. Brock
then claimed Bronze in the Champion of Champions event
and Bronze in the Point Score event. To end the
weekend Brock was upgraded from B to A Grade, an
excellent achievement. Brock intends to contest
the ISSF Olympic Nationals in Sydney in December.
Gerard Sainsbury shot his first 50 target break without
missing and had to shoot off to gain a third place in
the single barrel event. The six top shooters from
the Points, Single Barrel and Double Barrel events
contested over the 4 days must shoot another 25 targets
point score to vie for a position in the 3 man shoulder
to shoulder state team. Gerard Sainsbury made the
3 man Junior State team after shooting 74/75 points in a
nail biting final. Unfortunately Brock missed out
on the State selection by one point after another shoot
off for the third position. The Hunter Academy of
Sport 2010 graduate Nathan Wilkinson shot consistently
over the 4 day event and made the single barrel shoot
off after a 50/50 but missed out on a placing.
Northern Zone and Hunter Academy Coach Graham Gosling
travelled with the team to Wagga and say's the team
performed very well, Gerard and Brock conducted
themselves extremely well and certainly made their mark
in the eyes of the selectors. The coach will need
to pull his socks up .....

HUNTER ACADEMY OF SPORT
CLAY
TARGET DTL SQUAD
It was a proud moment for Hunter
Academy of Sport (HAS) Coach Graham Gosling as he
witnessed his new DTL Junior squad recruits achieve
placements in Newcastle’s Annual DTL event. Graham
said he was proud to be associated with a fantastic
group of young people and excited about watching this
group mature as adults and clay target shooters.
With
115 competitors on Saturday and 125 on Sunday the HAS
team members had to work for their achievements against
very seasoned shooters.
Kelby’s
effort in the handicap was no mean feat to have to shoot
4 targets on her own to catch up with the first squad of
qualifiers ( seven shooting for 3-5th place) then
regroup with Frank Zilliotto and have to shoot a hard
right hander off lane 5 to win the third place was very
exciting and showed great concentration and control.
David
Douglas shot consistently to take out "B"
grade high gun, traditionally a very competitive grade.
Even though Hayden didn't take home a trophy he shot
well and was happy with his scores, a very mild and easy
going young man. Nathan, Brock and Gerard all shot
consistently and all had section wins.
Congratulations
to the squad on a great performance.

HAS OLYMPIC TRAP SQUAD BRISBANE 1ST
ROUND ISSF AUSTRALIA CUP
Four members of the Hunter Academy of
Sport Trap Squad travelled to Brisbane for the 1st
round of the Australia Cup, Australia’s
ISSF Olympic Trap circuit competition and
Australasian Grand Prix on the 28th
February 2009. There were 89 competitors
which included the Japanese Winchester High Gun
on their annual shooting tour. Over the two
days of competition outstanding rounds were shot by
squad members Nathan Wilkinson scoring a 24/25 and
Russell McCloy scoring two perfect rounds of 25.
Nathan Wilkinson
In the double trap, Mick Harris shot
consistently to make it into the final top 6
finishing 5th
overall. However it was to be Russell’s
day as he went on, to out shoot two Olympic
competitors to win the overall event, his first
major open ISSF Olympic Trap event with a score of
120/125. This will open up the way for Russell to
compete in overseas competitions. The National Shotgun
coach approached Russ to see if he would be
available to travel to Italy later this year at the
World Championships.

HUNTER ACADEMY OF SPORT – YOUNG
SHOOTER TAKES MAJOR AWARD
Our future Olympians will come from our
junior ranks and one of the best nurseries at the moment
is the Hunter Academy of Sport at Newcastle, which
features Clay Target Shooting as one of its sports.
More than 2,000 people attended the
presentation night earlier this month at which Newcastle
Lake Macquarie Clay Target Club junior member, Russell
McCoy from Old Bar near Taree took one of the major
awards.
We sincerely congratulate Russell who
took the award for "outstanding performance in an
individual (non team) sport.
The Academy was founded in 1987 and is
now Australia’s largest regional facility with about
600 young athletes taking part in the various talent
development programs.
Congratulations are also due to NLMCTC
executive, Graham Gosling, who is also the Clay Target
Shooting Program Co-Ordinator and a very proud Head
Coach. It is good to see our youngsters participating so
well and at such high levels in shooting sports.
